Sustainability Committee

Student Affairs logo with leafIn 2006, UT began an environmental campaign that has swept campus with positive changes. “Make Orange Green” calls on all members of the university community to make an effort to be more environmentally aware on and off campus. The Division of Student Affairs has participated in the “Make Orange Green” campaign from its inception, but now we’ve initiated divisional efforts to be more sustainable. Staff and students from across the Division have come together to form a sustainability committee specifically for Student Affairs. The committee’s mission is to promote sustainability through action, education, and outreach. In the coming months look for new initiatives throughout the Division to get everyone involved in the office, at home, and in the Knoxville community.

Doing Their Part: University Housing started the semester with an amazing recycling effort. During move-in weekend, (August 14-16), more than 18,000 pounds of cardboard were collected from discarded moving boxes and packing materials! This topped last year’s record-setting efforts by 5,000 pounds, and garnered positive media attention for University Housing and Facilities Services.
