Dr. Redmond Retires After 26 Years of Service

Dr. Jane Redmond, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, retired on January 31, 2008 after 26 years of service with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

“Jane has been an incredible asset for both the Division of Student Affairs and the entire University community throughout her many years of service,” states Tim Rogers, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. “She was able to form invaluable relationships with students, faculty, staff, and outside constituents through her unparalleled charisma and commitment.”

Born in Cleveland, TN, Dr. Redmond received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Knoxville College, a Masters of Education in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Tennessee, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from The Ohio State University.

Prior to assuming her position as Assistant Vice Chancellor, Dr. Redmond served as the Director of the Office of Minority Student Affairs and the Black Cultural Center. During her directorship, a new two-million dollar Black Cultural Center was constructed on campus. Dr. Redmond, affectionately known as “Dr. Red,” has been an unwavering mentor and source of support for countless students during her tenure at the university.

She is involved in numerous community organizations such as Martin Luther King Commemorative Commission, Boys and Girls Club Corporate Board, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Knoxville Area Urban League, and her beloved church, Greater Warner AME Zion, where she is very active in its life and ministries. She has one son, Gyasi, who lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia.

When she isn’t traveling, Dr. Redmond plans on enjoying her retirement at her home in Knoxville. “We wish Jane all the best as she begins a new phase of her life. She will leave a huge void and will be sorely missed at the University of Tennessee,” says Vice Chancellor Rogers.
